WineItalyMonte SchiavoMonte Schiavo and La Vite are properties and cantinas owned by the Pieralisi family, the most prominent producer of olive oil equipment in the world. Although the winery is renowned for red wines, such as Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno, they are best known for Verdicchio. Verdicchio Riserva "Le Giuncare"Le Giuncare takes its name form the "Giunchi (reeds)" that grow along the riverbanks in the Jesi area. This Classico Riserva wine is form the Tassinare vineyard, in sandy, clay soil at 1,000 feet above sea level with a southern exposure. This Riserva wine must be aged at the winery for at least two years. It is considered to be the finest expression of the Verdicchio vine. After a crio-maceration in contact with the skins for 12 hours at 5 C, Le Giuncare is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. Part of the wine is barrel fermentated and aged for 6 months in small French oak casks. Rated 91 PTS by Wine & Spirits. Named "Best Italian White Wine" by the International Wine Challenge. Lacrima di Morro d'AlbaThe Lacrima di Morro D'Alba vine grows exclusively in the Morro D'Alba district of Le Marche near Jesi. There are only 13 producers with total plantings of 80 hectares. The red grape produces a deeply colored, aromatic, dry wine which should be enjoyed young. Monte Schiavo is considered the brand leader for Lacrima di Morro D'Alba, accounting for 12% of this red cult wine's production. The wine is deep ruby to purple color, with a spicy raspberry fragrance, a dry persistent, harmonious taste, and a lingering finish. Rosso Conero "Adeodato"This aristocratic Rosso Conero is named in honor of Adeodato Pieralisi, the founder of Gruppo Pieralisi, the owners of Monteschiavo and LaVite. It is one of Italy's most carefully made wines. Adeodato is entirely Montepulciano, harvested from the best vineyards at the end of October, when the grapes have reached their fullest phenolic maturation. Yields are kept low, at less than 40 hectoliters per hectare. After a long fermentation, Adeodato is aged for 14 months in new French oak casks (barriques). It is then bottled without filtration or fining so as to retain maximum concentration and richness. This is followed by a patient refinement in the bottle for at least 6 months. Only 2,400 bottles are produced (360 for the USA). Adeddato has been an instant success, having been given 3 glasses by the Gambero Rosso, as well as having received one of the loftiest ratings from Luca Maroni. A deep, intense ruby hue, complex fragrances of mountain berries, ripe cherries, and cacao. A dry rich taste with nuances of licorice, prunes, currants and a lingering concen Noble preparations of red meats, steaks, chops, rack of lamb, aged cheese. Truly a wine of meditation. |
