WineFranceHenri GiraudThe Giraud FamilyContemporaries of Henri IV and his descendants, the Hemart family settled permanently in Ay at the beginning of the 17th century. Their history took root there and became closely interwoven with the momentous historical events relating to champagne from the 18th century onwards. The Francois Hemart champagneis made exclusively from the " Grand Cru" vineyards of Ay. Consequently, the production is limited to a few thousand bottles per year. Francois Hemart is the earliest known ancestor of the Giraud-Hemart family. His famous name, steeped in history and passion, was adopted for the label of our next top-quality champagne. This wine, eminently satisfying and smooth, characterises the inherent qualities of the grapes from the vineyards of Ay. The vinification of this wine is unique in Champagne: cold settling of the must, vinification for 6 months in thermostatically-controlled vats, followed by a 6-month period of ageing in barrels constructed of oak wood from the Argonne forest. This non-vintage champagne is available in three different categories: Francois Hemart BrutThe personality of this powerful, full-bodied wine from the hillsides of Ay is intensified by ageing in small, oak casks. 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay (typical percentages for wines from the Ay vineyards). Francois Hemart Brut RoseA tender, romantic champagne, related to the history of Champagne wines by virtue of the addition of red wines from Ay. |
